Intelligence over brute force

Until now, most efforts in robotics have focused on demonstrating specialized capabilities. Each new scenario heavily relies on extensive human effort through hard-coded rules or teleoperated data collection.

We believe that this approach has run its course. It is far too brittle and unscalable to enable truly versatile robots that can take on diverse morphologies for an infinite amount of different manual tasks. Robots are meant to help humans, not force them into teleoperation farms collecting data day and night — not to mention the new needs that will arise in the future for which there is no pre-existing human-led process.

Through our past experiences with robots and AI, we have forged the deep conviction that combining simulated worlds and reinforcement learning is the key to unlocking robots’ true potential.
